A Status Survey of Metacercarial Infection in Freshwater Fish

Abstract
A total of 1, 740 freshwater fish of 26 different species was collected nationwidely in 49 rivers and streams of 12 administrative provinces except Cheju Do from July to September 1985, in order to reveal out the general status of their metacercarial infections. The fish were examined under microscope after pressing flesh, scales, fins and gills between 2 slide glasses.
The results could be summarized as follows:
1. Out of 49 loci examined, fish in 38 loci were found infected with any kind of metacercaria. None of fish from Chung Chungbug Province and Incheon City were found Infected. In all surveyed loci in Seoul, Taegu, Kangwon, Chungnam, Jeonbug, K-ungbug and Kyungnam, any fish was found infected.
2. The fish which were found infectedwith any metacercaria were as follows in order of infection rate: Plecoglossus altivelis(23.5%), Mugil sp. (22.2%), Pseudorasbora parva (20.0x), Acanthorhodeus gracilis (18.9%), Puntungia herxi(18. 2%), Zacco platypus(17. 010), Cyprinus carpio(14.3%), Gnathopogon coreanus(9.7%), Carassius carassius(9.0010), Opsariichthys bidens(7.50,0), Pseudogobio esocinus(5.8%) etc.
3. In 13 species of freshwater fish, no metacercarial infection was found.
